marthaCouple · October 2026★ 5.0Magical and welcoming.
Beautiful garden setting in the rain forest 1 mile from Volcano Nat Park. The grounds were a pleasure to wander. The hosts were lovely people. Everything, the room, the breakfast in our room, the extra touches were thoughtfully and mindfully laid out. We instantly felt at home and welcomed in this magical setting. We can't recommend this place highly enough.

Perfect B&B! Would definitely recommend for a home base while exploring the national park!
SuzanneCouple · June 2026★ 5.0The owners did an amazing job and were so kind and hospitable. Everything is well thought out and the breakfast was fres
The property was absolutely stunning. There is a walkable area around the property where you can take a stroll and see all the different plants on the property. It is only a five minute drive to the volcanoes and surrounding restaurants.
PhyllisCouple · June 2026★ 5.0The perfect stay right next to Volcanoes National Park
The property was absolutely gorgeous! There was a short walk through a stunning rain forest (?) and small bamboo forest. I swear I even saw a wild pig run through! I might be crazy, I was jet lagged, but what ever it was scared the bajeebies out of me! 🤣
It was all great!
stevewT3835ONSolo travel · May 2026★ 5.0Wonderful B&B in Volcano
We spent three nights at the Hale 'Ohu B&B this past week. The twin sisters, Nicole and Gabrielle were wonderful hosts. They have three wonderfully appointed suites. Our room was very clean and comfortable. Everything is well thought out and no detail is missing. Even down to providing you with custom made umbrellas. The breakfasts are very good, especially the homemade breads. The grounds surrounding the property are like venturing into a private botanical garden. It is very close to the National Park as well as some very interesting art galleries and glass blowing studios. While Volcano, the town is limited to what it offers, what is there is terrific and there is no better place to spend your time there than staying at the Hale 'Ohu B&B.
H6983YVnancycFamily · April 2026★ 5.0A lush and lovely oasis
Hale O'hu (House in the Mist) is a lovely botanical oasis. Yet so close to Volcano Natl Park and the little town of Volcano. Very kind and thoughtful hosts. The landscaping is lush and stunning. Everything that you need is provided in the room. The yummy breakfast is left for you in the fridge the day before, so all you have to do it pull it out and heat it up. I hope to definitely return to this B & B!
deborahcI8639FECouples · April 2026★ 5.0Great location for getting to Volcanoes National Park!
Hale Ohu is a bed and breakfast located in the town of Volcano and is a 5-minute drive from the Volcanoes National Park entrance. It is so convenient! The room is simple but the grounds of this place are beautiful. The breakfast is in your mini-fridge for your convenience and it was really great for all 3 mornings (tomatoe/feta frittata, blueberry ricotta dish and another frittata). They are small but also included are juice and either fruit of oatmeal. You check in through a window but if you have questions the host Nicole was happy to chat. Overall I would recommend this place - it was perfect for our stay.
BrandiCouple · January 2026★ 5.0Absolutely would stay again if visiting Hawaii Volcanoes!
Minutes from Hawaii Volcanoes Park entrance. Coziest bed I think I’ve ever slept in. Breakfasts were excellent, tasty and nutritious! Room was spacious and had everything I needed. Beautiful property.
Room had high humidity. A dehumidifier was provided but since we were only to run it when in the room, my belongings seemed a little damp when packing and my book cover curled up. Mildly annoying but didn’t impact my perception of the stay.

I have stayed a few times and it’s one of my favorite places on the Big Island! If you are going to the Volcano this is a must visit.
Journey534551Couples · October 2025★ 2.0Beautiful Property, But Disappointing Hospitality
We found the property grounds to be lovely and the room to be comfortable, which we truly appreciated. However, my husband and I were disappointed by the hospitality we experienced during our stay. We traveled during the slower season and happened to be the only guests on the property at the time. Despite making a few efforts to engage with the owner, we were met with an unfriendly attitude and, at times, responses that felt outright rude and condescending. It gave us the impression that our presence was unwelcome, as though we were an inconvenience rather than guests. As someone who works in the hospitality industry, the most important thing I look for when traveling is warmth and friendliness. I can easily overlook small issues when a host is kind and welcoming, but unfortunately, that was not our experience here. During our two-week trip across three Hawaiian islands, we encountered many wonderful, hospitable people — which made this particular experience stand out all the more. It genuinely dampened part of our trip.

DanielleCouple · August 2025★ 5.0Great place to stay while visiting Volcanoes National Park
Hale 'Ohu feels secluded while also being very close to restaurants and Volcanoes National Park. It's very quiet and the gardens are beautiful. The mattress was SO comfortable. It was on the firmer end of the spectrum and I have to say it was the most comfortable bed I've slept in away from home in years. We enjoyed our stay and would stay here again.
Nothing. It was great.
vanessas750Couples · August 2025★ 5.0A great place to stay. Peaceful, comfortable and good value for money.

D7105XSnancymCouples · July 2025★ 5.0Excellent Garden Hideaway Minutes from Volcano National Park
Hale Ohu is a very private B & B nestled in a jungle garden. Super comfy bed and easy-to-work-with management. We were traveling with an odd and changing schedule. Simple late check in and in -fridge breakfast, ready anytime, allowed us maximum flexibility to view the volcano at 4 AM when the eruption began.
