Charming lodge just minutes from the Volcanoes National Park

MarciaSolo traveller · September 2026★ 5.0

So close to Volcanoes National Park, easy drive to see the lava at night! Spacious, clean room. Mini split, tower fan/heater and gas stove available for setting your own comfort level.

It was so tranquil and relaxing. The size of the room was comfortable and it was also super clean. W

We loved the trail behind the cottages.

We enjoyed breakfast more than we did dinner but the cocktails were amazing though!

Perfeft place to stay if you are visiting the volcano.

A comfortable place to stay while visiting the Kilauea volcano. Everything is convenient and the staff were very nice. This was my second time here and will do it again.

Not that I can think of.

Wish We Could Have Stayed Longer!

We spent two nights here and would definitely come back again! Pros: Friendly staff that go the extra mile to make you feel welcome: Everyone that we interacted with was warm and friendly. The first morning we were there, we enjoyed a complimentary breakfast of pumpkin muffins, fruit, oatmeal, scrambled eggs, sausage and tea/coffee/juice. During the second night of our stay, the Big Island was hit by a Kona Low storm that brought lots of rain and a power outage. The next morning, staff made sure we were well-fed despite the lack of power. There was juice, coffee, tea, bottled water along with freshly cut fruit and homemade sunflower bread with butter and coconut shortbread cookies. They got a fire going in the dining room fireplace and each table had a little battery-operated lamp. We felt well-cared for! Restaurant on site: The restaurant serves lunch and dinner daily; complimentary breakfast Monday-Saturday as well as a brunch on Sunday. They use locally-sourced ingredients in many of their items. My husband had the short rib risotto for dinner - the meat was fall-off-the bone tender and I had the crab cakes. Both were very good. For dessert, we shared a piece of pie that I can only describe as incredible: it had a chocolate cookie crust and mint mousse in the middle topped with a thick layer of melted chocolate. We also ate lunch there one day and split a turkey club sandwich with fries that was very good. Do yourself a favor and even if you're not staying here, go to the restaurant! Proximity to Volcano Park: You are only 1.5 miles away which makes it convenient. There is also a general store close by for any supplies that you might need, and a small restaurant (Lava Rock Cafe) that serves comfort-style cuisine. Accommodations: We were in the Kehau room which is one of two rooms on the ground floor at the back of the property. We loved the gas fireplace (it cools down at night) and the nice touches like the towel warmer bar in the bathroom and the homemade coconut shortbread cookies in the room. There aren't any tv's in the rooms, but there is a common area where you can grab a board game. No microwave in the room, but there is one in the common area. Wi-Fi is free and we always got a good signal. Because of the rainstorm, we were unable to use the hot tub and walk the trail on the property, but would have taken advantage of both. There is also a small gift shop next to the restaurant with a wonderful variety of items. CONS: The only thing that I can think of is not being able to stay longer! If our travels take us to the Big Island again, we will definitely visit this B & B.

Kilauea Lodge - pleasant surprise and experience

Kilauea Lodge was a pleasant surprise for our first time visit to Hilo. The location is fantastic with its close proximity to the Volcano National Park. The ambience is quite tranquil and calm. I loved the unit we got, it was large, and was tucked away in the back with garden view and hot tub nearby. I would highly recommend and would definitely stay again.

Fabulous little cottage, beautiful lodge, perfect setting

Amazing! The lodge is situated on beautiful grounds and it felt like being in the middle of a rainforest. The fireplace added to the coziness.

Nothing, wish we could have stayed longer

Amazing. Match perfectly with the volcano experience.

Amazing Room!!

Breakfast could be a little more complete (there is no bread for example)

This is the place to go if staying near Volcano National Park.

Has everything you need and want. Climate control even in bathroom, fireplace, umbrellas, flashlights, towel warmers, 5 gal fresh drinking water, outdoor hot tub, comfortable bed, clean, quiet, food is excellent, common areas. Best for couples. Nice hiking trail.

Shower takes a couple minutes to warm up (uses rain water) and not the highest water pressure but otherwise perfect.

Exceptional stay and restaurant.

The restaurant is a MUST! Dinner was incredible! The morning breakfast exceeded our expectations. Wait staff exceeded our expectations! It was very nice to have a/c and a ceiling fan in the room. Shower was clean and adequate.

Carpet in the room is unfavorable. Would prefer hard surface flooring.

Beautiful lodging near Volcanoes National Park

The Kīlauea Lodge and grounds are well maintained. Our room was clean, nicely decorated, and cozy. There is a tasty complimentary breakfast included with the stay. The lodge is located very close to Volcanoes National Park. It's a wonderful place to stay.

We loved this property and hope to return someday.

Excellent location very close to Volcanoes National Park. Friendly staff. Fresh continental breakfast. Property and grounds are well maintained.

We were in a ground floor unit, and the sound proofing isn't very effective.
