Great place, beautiful
Beautiful setting and great access to Middleton Place
Some of the areas could do with some TLC, dirty floors, windows and dusty areas in the lodge - has huge potential to be something extrodinary.
Come for the peaceful atmosphere, the sincere charm, and the history, away from downtown Charleston.
Truly atmospheric! Brutalist architecture on the riverfront of a centuries-old plantation! Enjoyed walking the paths, the almost complete lack of pavement, gazing at the river, the sound of the animals in the trees at night (spooky!) The room was spacious, minimalist, completely comfortable. Fine friendly service in common areas. This is not a fancy resort, but a very tranquil and well designed place to stay. I will come back in springtime.
A slight musty smell in the room , was a little offputting but i got used to it. In the hot sticky July weather so much condensation on the outside of the windows it obscured the view of the river. Not much to do about it i guess, given the high elevation of the rooms ,up a tall set of stairs, keeping out of the flood zone. I am from the pacific coast so have very little experience with the weather of the south.
Beautiful sanctuary
So peaceful and a great design in a beautiful place
The included breakfast is awful. This country really needs to wake up when it comes to food, it's embarrassing. The restaurant at Middleton place serves great local food, why is the hotel breakfast all poison?
Beautiful property with lots of amenities.
Perfect location; amazing restaurant.
Loved it
Beautiful scenery and lots of history
Mosquitoes…my fault. I didn’t bring repellent
Beautiful place to stay and relax!
Loved the peaceful location surrounded by nature and history. The breakfast was wonderful and everything was clean. Staff was friendly and helpful.
I didn’t realize it was as far from downtown Charleston as it was. The website says 20 miles and I misread as 20 minutes and it’s closer to 35 minutes.
Relaxing trip thru history.
Breakfast was very good. Bed was comfortable.
Very relaxing stay on Ashley River with easy access to Middleton Plantation and Gardens.
Buffet style breakfast was nice. Eating lunch and dinner at the restaurant was excellent.
Everything was great. The sherry and macaroons was nice each evening during happy hour.
Excellent
It was my daughter and her husband's wedding night! They said it was fabulous with spectacular views!!
Beautiful facility and amenities for a great price!
Beautiful grounds and very accommodating staff!
Our WiFi was sketchy and some of the shutters were broken.
This place is stunning and met every expecting I had!
Breakfast was fantastic! Wouldn't change a thing about it
The literal ONLY thing I would change is the pillows! They went so flat as soon as you lay your head down. Everything else was great!
Fabulous location - superb grounds - very good (high-end) restaurant
Great Restaurant
Just fabulous
Amazing location in such a beautiful part of South Carolina. We could spend time at Middleton Place walking in the fabulous gardens and sitting by the river outside our accommodation.
Peaceful surroundings. Excellent breakfast. Comfortable bed and pillows.
The property is large and beautiful.
It was our anniversary, and we stayed here. We weren’t really greeted or congratulated, but that wasn’t a big issue. When we arrived, housekeeping seemed to still be working, and there were bags of trash along the road. In our room, the bathroom was very dirty. The toilet was extremely unclean, and there was even used toilet paper left from previous guests. There were no tissues or basic toiletries like shampoo or shower gel. After a long journey, we were too tired to deal with it and ended up cleaning it ourselves. Our first impression was disappointing. The territory itself is beautiful, but not well maintained.
Great location and really queit.
Lovely hotel in a nice quiet location. Very large room. Good choice at breakfast. Great to have Middleton Place on the doorstep, or a walk away.
Some of Middleton Place was shut as changing an event.
Great and beautiful location; be ready for an old room.
The location is beautiful.
The rooms are very old and need urgent renovation.
Can’t wait to come back
It’s a breathtaking property in beautiful woods next to the marsh water. The walk to Middleton Place in full bloom is out of a storybook. The design, view of nature, furnishings, and firewood smell of the room is bliss. Decent breakfast to boot.
Had to wait 45 minutes for the room to be ready after we arrived at the 4pm check in time.
loved the older oak trees,it was a very relaxing place to stay
had to leave
